FUNERAL WILL BE ON SUNDAY

WIDELY KNOWN MONROE TWP. FARMER PASSED AWAY THURSDAY P. M.

Webb Evans, age 72 years, died late Thursday at the General Hospital in Indianapolis, after an illness of four weeks.

Mr. Evans was born July 8, 1875 in Lexington, Ky. He moved to Illinois when a young man, but had been a resident of Putnam county for the past 32 years. He was one of the widely known farmers of Putnam county, having been interested in hybrid corn for many years and was always among the high producers in corn yielding contests throughout the years. He also raised much livestock on the Monroe township farm, but was more widely known for his soil conservation and grain production.

Mr. Evans is survived by the widow, Ruth Wells Evans and three daughters, Mrs. Charles Hutchins, Highland, Ind.; Mrs. Gardner Eggers, Bloomfield, Ind.; and Miss Betty Ruth Evans, a student in Tulane University, New Orleans. There are three grandchildren, Dorothy Louise, Bonnie Sue and David Edward Hutchins; five sisters, Mrs. John Story, Charleston, Ill.; Mrs. Harry Etnire, Charleston, Ill.; Mrs. Sallie Simeton (sic[Simonton]), Fort Worth, Texas; Mrs. Ida Beil (sic[Ida Belle Jennings]), Waterloo, Iowa; and Mrs. Ray Etcheson, Cloverdale. Two brothers, Frank Evans of Peoria, Ill., and John Evans, Hinesdale, Ill., also survive.

Mr. Evans was a member of the First Christian church of Greencastle. The Rev. Ralph Saunders will have charge of the services which will be held from the Rector Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock with burial in the Brick Chapel cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after seven this evening.

Submitted by John Hutchins.
